Description
Someone's eating good right now! This little fellow (the brown one) is called an assassin bug (reduviidae). They're part of a family of insects hemiptera called bugs or true bugs. Assassin bugs lie in ambush, almost like a mantis, waiting for a prey item to come by, and snap! Lunch! I just found this little guy had cought a bee or wasp of some kind—a bit bigger then itself it looks like—and started walking down the branch carying its prize. If you look closely, the assassin bug already has it's proboscus (tongue) stuck in behind the bee's head, no doubt already slurping up the sweet juices of it's victum. Mm-mmmm!
