Description

thomastapir had this cool idea about set of pics he took of this flower, making it out to be like an alien flamingo analogue. Or at least the head of one. He called it flormingo. See his pics for his description of the animal: Flormingo 01 Flormingo 02 Flormingo 03. After checking with thomastapir, I took it upon myself to give the creature a body in Blender. It's not meant to be a full fleshed out character model. More of a mockup, or what I might call a moquette.

I didn't know what to do with the feet, so I gave it ones similarly to  my bryochikan. Seemed fitting as it's also a bird analogue. So at least my version of this creature might be related to it.
I've had this model planed out for awhile, but only recently fixed it up to post it. I kept the torso part very low detailed, as I hope to fill in the specifics of it's anatomy later. I might fix the lags too. I hope to rig it in the future, make it animatable, maybe make a little scene for it to run around in. We may see more of this guy later!

A previous sketch of a flormingo is also featured here: [Link] I also made a little sketch of another critter that could be related: [Link]
Credit for the original idea goes to :iconthomastapir:.

Aw man, this looks GREAT! I'm really impressed by the way you emulated or maintained the original topology, proportions, even colors into the 3D model despite having only the "flat" photo for reference. The body form itself seems totally appropriate--I'm picturing it as a flower bud that "blooms" wings. In this case the upper petals would be more analogous to a beetle's elytra, I guess. Those feet remind me of something very specific, but I can't pin down what, exactly...Hm hm hm, I'll have to think about it.

Anywho, this is stellar work and I can't wait to see the next developmental iteration! I'm tempted to do a few conceptual sketches riffing on your design, and thus the endless recursive cycle of creativity continues. XD
